Welcome back! It’s been several years since I last wrote about cycling. I moved away from Melbourne in 2016, after which I accidentally let the momnium.com domain lapse, and it was quickly taken over by a domain squatter. I wasn’t too bothered by it because I now live in Finland, where track cycling isn’t particularly popular. Although we have a couple of nice outdoor velodromes, it’s not exactly a hotspot for new ideas around cycling—let alone track cycling. As a result, I simply didn’t have much to discuss.
Unexpectedly, my personal circumstances now have me traveling more around Europe to attend road and track races. This has led me to think more about performance and how to squeeze out more speed per watt. You know how it is—while the fundamental principles remain the same, the sport has evolved significantly since 2017, nearly eight years ago. Track cycling is still a mystery to many, and through this blog, I want to help demystify it by offering clear, straightforward explanations.
For now, let’s see how this develops. I plan to post mostly technical articles, breaking down each topic in a simple, easy-to-understand way. I’ll also dust off my camera to produce more original content from local racing. Initially, I want to keep this as a written blog, focusing on in-depth technical breakdowns of the sport—no YouTube videos or podcasting. I know reading articles on a screen isn’t the most modern approach, but for now, it’s the best use of my time. I hope you find it useful!
