After moving to Finland in 2016, I took an eight-year break from writing about track cycling. In that time, the sport has evolved significantly—gearing is larger, aerodynamics are better understood (and valued), and speeds are undeniably faster. Unfortunately, track cycling has become more of an arms race, where bigger budgets often lead to faster performances. That said, with the right approach, you can achieve most of the major gains without spending a fortune.
Through this website, I hope to share my experiences and insights into track cycling. Occasionally, others may contribute as well. While there’s a wealth of information available, much of it lacks depth. My goal is to take a closer look at the strategies top athletes use in training and racing. Most of what I discuss will focus on track cycling, as that’s my primary interest, but many concepts apply across disciplines. Ultimately, this is about one thing—finding more speed on the bike.
I’ve been involved in racing since 1989, including roles in Australian cycling administration, representing Australia at multiple world championships, managing teams at the World Track Cycling Championships, and learning from some of Australia’s top national coaches—both as an athlete and a coach. More recently, I’ve been involved in my daughter’s cycling career in the Netherlands and Belgium, gaining modern insights across multiple disciplines.
I hope you find this useful.
